Wa’haka, a street-style Mexican restaurant owned by Cesar Hernandez, is planning to open at 4474 Chamblee Dunwoody Rd, Atlanta, GA 30338 in the summer of 2025. It will be taking the place of the now-closed Takorea.

Hernandez, who also owns Oaxana Tacos and Tequila in Chamblee and Lawrenceville, recently signed the lease for the new location and is currently remodeling the space, including restructuring the bar and bathrooms, he reported to Business Debut.

Wa’haka will offer a menu filled with traditional Mexican street food, including trompo al pastor, street tacos, quesadillas, gringas, burritos, nachos, carne asada, cheese dip, sweet plantains, barbacoa, elote and much more. He's planning to include some TexMex dishes, but the emphasis will be Mexican street tacos. Desserts will include tres leches and churros, and the restaurant will feature hand-pressed fresh flour and corn tortillas.

The full-service restaurant will also feature a bar, offering craft margaritas, including frozen and on-the-rocks options, as well as margarita flights. The bar will have a full wall of bottles with a emphasis on tequila and mezcal, Hernandez said.

With seating for 40-50 guests inside and another 40-50 on a covered patio—complete with heaters for year-round use—Wa’haka aims to create an upbeat, fun and welcoming atmosphere for diners.
